Such was the case a little more than a week ago with Nicole and Nick. We were scheduled to photograph their engagement session at a local park. A few traffic hiccups and a park that closed early made us realize that the engagement session would have to be postponed. As we were busy scheduling a new date – I suggested we drive a mile up the road to this little field I know. We spent about half an hour capturing some fun images.

Although we still plan on a wine tasting trip up north – I though I would post a couple of photos from our first mini session:

Chris and Jamie experienced some delays in being able to schedule their engagement session (long story). So finally we were able to schedule a day last week to visit El Matador Beach in Malibu. When we arrived at the beach we encountered gale force winds (slight exaggeration), but they were strong enough to blow us all over the place. Jamie and Chris expressed deep disappointment that the session would yet again be postponed. As we stood around considering alternate dates – a strange thing happened, the wind died down and was replaced by a graceful breeze. We all looked at each other in amazement and ran down to the beach area and started photographing. Here are some of the photos from a great afternoon in Malibu:

I always enjoy these sessions as I get to have a lot of fun while getting to know my future bride and groom. This was no exception. We walked around the marina on a perfect  spring evening capturing so many different photos. I really enjoyed getting to know this couple and can’t wait for their wedding later this year.

They are both cross country runners in college – so we headed out to the hiking trails at Placerita Canyon Park. It was a gorgeous sunny afternoon with tons of late day sun to work with. (It was also a very peaceful park and just felt good to be outside). We hiked the trails and stopped at a variety of locations to photograph. Here are a couple of the images:

We spent a gorgeous afternoon photographing at The Palace of Fine Arts, Chrissy Field and Baker Beach. We had a blast with Conrad and Serena and after I found out Conrad graduated from the University of Michigan (my favorite College Football team) we were best friends! After the session Conrad and Serena took my wife, Amy (my second photographer)and me out for a great sunset dinner on the beach. Can’t wait to photograph their June wedding here in L.A. Here are some images from a great day:

(Images coming soon). On Saturday the day before the wedding, Amy Britton (visiting friend and Canadian Wedding Photographer) and I headed down to the town square in beautiful Sonoma to capture some engagement photos. Although I had previously met Gabrielle – I just met Drew the evening before and instead of a handshake was greeting with a big hug and some awesome Scotch Whiskey! Can you say instant rapport?

On New Years Eve we traveled up to Wrightwood California – home of Mount High Ski Resort. Krysta and Andrew wanted a snowy, Christmas feel to their engagement photos. We spent half the session in the town of Wrightwood and the traveled to Jackson Lake for some “woodsy” photographs. Although my hands were freezing we had a lot of fun. Had to believe that two days before I was at the beach. You gotta love Southern California.

Life is a beach here in California. I was back in Malibu yesterday at the beautiful El Matador Beach with Ashley and Justin. The sunshine was warm and the light – well it was amazing! Ashley and Justin were very fun to photograph as you can tell by the images below. We just wandered all over the beach, playing and getting wet. It doesn’t get any better than this!

I can’t believe how fast the time pasted because we were having such a great time. The goal was to capture some romantic and edgy images. There seemed to be no end to the photographic opportunities we came across.  I love the Marilyn Monroe look of the first image – one of my favorites from the day.
