William’s Excellent Adventure

Sorry I have not posted in a couple of weeks. (many new images and posts coming soon). I just completed a 12 day whirlwind adventure. It all started on Wednesday March 3rd driving to Las Vegas where I spend two days with the awesome Australian photographer Marcus Bell as part of the WPPI (Wedding & Portraits International) convention. It was a very inspiring experience. Friday evening March 5th it was back in the car with my wife and Canadian wedding photographer friend, Amy Britton, for the drive back to Los Angeles. We pulled in around 10 PM. On Saturday March 6th Amy and I photographed Heather and Casey’s wedding here in Santa Clarita. Sunday morning was spent downloading and doing some preliminary post production work. (Wedding images and post due later today or tomorrow). Late Sunday we flew back to Las Vegas just in time to attend the WPPI welcome reception. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (March 8 – 10) were spent at the convention speaking in the Buckeye Color Lab booth where my work was displayed and attending a live broadcast of Fridayphotoschool with Will Crockett and Sarah Petty. I am so honored to be part of the Fridayphotoschool organization. I spent most of Wednesday evening doing what “stays in Vegas” with a bunch of fellow photographer friends. Finally got to bed around 2 AM just in time to hear the alarm go off at 6 AM Thursday morning. Jumped on a 8 AM flight to Los Angeles. Got home just in time to unpack and repack and drive up north to Napa Valley with my wife and Amy. After a great Indian dinner we crashed around 10 PM. It rained on Friday – so we spent most of the day driving around Napa and Sonoma wine tasting and scouting for our two weekend Shoots. On Saturday Amy and I photographed an engagement session for Gabrielle and Drew, including a large group bike ride (images coming soon). On Sunday March 14, Amy and I photographed Gabrielle and Drew’s fun wedding at the Fairmont Inn and Spa in Sonoma (images coming soon). On Monday we headed down to San Francisco just in time for a great lunch in Chinatown. We then met up with Serena and Conrad to photograph their engagement session at The Palace of Fine Arts, Crissy Field and Baker Beach. We then all joined Serena and Conrad for a great dinner on the beach – thanks Conrad! (Images coming soon). My wife and I then said goodbye to Amy – she was planning to spend a couple of days in SF. We left San Francisco at 8:30 PM and rolled into L.A, at 2:00 AM . We unpacked and went to bed at 2:30 AM, only to be awakened by one of L.A’s famous 4.4 earthquakes at 4:04 AM.

I am just getting back into the swing of things. I love what I do – thats what makes adventures like this easy.

Little Munchkins

Went out with my two favorite little subjects this morning. After the usual trials and tribulations of photographing your grandchildren – “but I don’t want my picture taken Grandpa”! Things settled down and a couple photos were to be had.

Wedding Photography Video

On Wednesday Matt Sutherland from Matrimony Pictures joined Joey Carman and me for a fun filled afternoon of movie making. Joey and I were shooting a short video to post on our upcoming workshop blog – WIJC-Series. Of course Joey could not leave without setting the timer and taking a group photo. Video should be available in a couple of weeks. It was a fun day – thanks Matt and Joey!

Beach, Portraits and Dinner with Friends

On Sunday I gathered the whole family in two cars and head down to Malibu for a family Photo session. My buddy – Joey Carman from Joey Carman Photography photographed my family and I captured his. It was one of those magical days – spend with good friends and family. Afterwards we all headed over to Taverna Tony for a Greek feast. Here are some of the images of Joey and Karen with their adorable kids.

Promo Images for Video Friend

My good friend Ari Perilstein – Videographer extraordinaire, is relaunching his business with a new name and website (i would love to link to it, but it does not go live until January 1st, 2010). He asked me to take some promo images for him last week. We headed out to the alley way behind his Beverly Hills office and shot for about 30 minutes. We took our time because I was using my Leica Rangefinder Camera and that requires manual focus and exposure! He are a couple of photos and at the bottom is an awesome film Ari put together from a wedding we both worked on this fall at the St. Regis Hotel.

Tango Time! Images From Buenos Aires

I just returned from a very quick mini vacation to Buenos Aires Argentina. My wife and I spent 5 days in the city visiting different areas and eating way too much great food (and wine). I packed my Leica M8 and two lens as we toured this great city. Here are some some my favs:

These first two photos are from the Puerto Madero – which is the former dockside area that is undergoing a renaissance with tons of new restaurants, bars and hotels. They left the old dockside cranes intact – creating a very cool atmosphere!

On Saturday it was raining – so we headed out to Recoleta Cemetery. It’s famous for being the final resting place for Eva Peron of “Don’t Cry for me Argentina” fame. I also captured one of may favorite self portraits ever – which I will share at the bottom of this post.

Walking back to our hotel in the rain, we stopped to take refugee at El Ateneo – the largest bookstore in Latin American, in the extraordinary setting of an old theater.

On Sunday with the sun back out – it was off to La Boca – the colorful barrio where tango is danced in the streets (for a tip – of course)

There were many opportunities for great street photography as well. The dog was the star here – chasing plastic bottles down the street!

On Monday it was back to Recoleta to visit the local arts and craft show in the beautiful sunshine.

…and last – my favorite self portrait. I took it on Saturday in the pouring rain while we were touring Recoleta cemetery. It’s a reflection off a mausoleum. Although it was eerie to begin with, I added a texture to give it a more mysterious look. What do you think?

Birthday Fun!

On Friday evening my Wife and Daughter-in-Law, Samantha, threw me a little birthday bash. We had some good friends over and enjoyed some awesome food and drink. We had a little photo booth set up for people to capture some photos. (Thanks to Joey Carman for helping out with the set up). Here are a couple shots:

Having such a great time with friends and family made me feel like a “Rock Star”. Can you see the similarity below?

San Diego Zoo

A Very Special Day

Last Thursday in conjunction with an event to be held in April at “All Corked Up” (more on this later), I spent an awesome day taking portraits at our local Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center. With the help of Robin Clough and Diane Hill, I photographed over 40 sessions in 4 hours. We are going to present each participant with a free 8×10 print. I enjoyed meeting everyone that stopped by to have a picture taken. It was a very special day for me, getting to know so many new friends.

On April 21st All Corked Up will be hosting a wine & food tasting event titled “Celebrate & Support our Seniors”. A portion of the proceeds will go the the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center. I will be there exhibiting the following images and taking free portraits of all the attendees in the wine tasting room.
