Nicole and Nick Engagement Session

Sometimes you need a “Plan B” to fall back on. Such was the case a little more than a week ago with Nicole and Nick. We were scheduled to photograph their engagement session at a local park. A few traffic hiccups and a park that closed early made us realize that the engagement session would have to be postponed. As we were busy scheduling a new date – I suggested we drive a mile up the road to this little field I know. We spent about half an hour capturing some fun images.

Although we still plan on a wine tasting trip up north – I though I would post a couple of photos from our first mini session:

Erika & Anthony at Pelican Hill Newport

On July 2nd we headed down to Pelican Hill – Newport Beach to photography the wedding of Erika and Anthony. It was a beautiful wedding with many friends and family in attendance. The theme was red roses – I don’t believe I’ve ever seen so many red roses at one time – it was absolutely breath-taking.

Although the weather was a little overcast – it was a perfect day for a wedding. The day’s festivities ended with a very bright sparkler send off! Here are a couple of images from this wonderful wedding:

Finding Your Perfect Wedding Dress

Face it, your wedding dress is almost as important as the wedding itself. After you’ve tied the knot, your dress will live on not only in your closet, but also in the dozens and dozens of pictures that will be taken on your big day. You’ll want to look your absolute best. Consider the following tips when choosing your perfect wedding gown:

Location, Location, Location

After you’ve nailed down a venue for your wedding, planning for your dress should commence soon after. The location and ambiance should be an important factor in deciding the style of wedding dress you choose. If you’re planning to tie the knot on one of California’s many beaches, a less-formal dress would be more appropriate (and comfortable) than a multi-layered gown typically worn at indoor ceremonies.

Pace Yourself

Finding the perfect wedding dress will take some time, so don’t rush the process. Many wedding dress retailers have strict return policies, if they allow returns at all, so you’ll need to be absolutely certain the gown you buy is “the one.” In the months leading up to your date, set aside a day each week to try on a wedding dress or two. If you try them on all at once, you’ll be overwhelmed and won’t have time to make the right decision. Don’t go alone when you’re wedding dress hunting, but also don’t bring a gaggle of friends to help you decide. If possible, bring your mother or a close friend who will give you her honest opinion, while leaving the ultimate decision to you.

The Right Style

Do you prefer a traditional gown that can be passed down as an heirloom piece, or a super-trendy gown that’s made just for you? A slinky sheath or a princess-style ball gown? Some may choose a couture wedding dress, while others prefer to do a vintage gown. With the myriad of styles, fabrics and colors to choose from, it can be overwhelming, but you should choose the wedding dress that best suits your personal style and comfort level. Remember, it’s your big day and no one else’s, so choose the wedding dress that makes you feel best.

Get a Good Fit

When you’re trying on gowns, be sure to wear the shoes you plan to wear on your wedding day to ensure an exact fit. Most wedding dress manufacturers have their own size charts, so what may be a size 4 from one designer is actually size 6 in another. Once you’ve ordered and received your dress, you may need alterations. You should keep adjustments to a minimum, bearing in mind that while it may be easy to take in a wedding dress, it’s nearly impossible to let one out.

Keep these pointers in mind, and let your wedding dress be a perfect expression of you on your wedding day!

Serena & Conrad – June 26, 2010

On Saturday June 26th we photographed the wedding of Serena and Conrad at Heritage Park. I had met them and photographed their engagement session while on a trip to San Francisco earlier this year. Conrad and I found an immediate bond – both being University of Michigan fans – Go Blue! (I will have another post on this soon). It was a great wedding in beautiful surroundings. The reception was a 10 course feast, including shark fin soup. Some of the best Chinese food I have ever eaten.

Corinna & Sam at Westlake Village Inn

Westlake Village Inn was the setting for Corinna and Sam’s beautiful wedding last Sunday. It was a gorgeous day and the wedding ceremony took place in the Tuscan Garden – an amazing garden with a long pathway over-grown with Jasmine.

This wedding centered around family and very close friends – with most traveling from out of State to be with Sam and Corinna. The cocktail hour and reception overlooked the beautiful lake and it’s gazebo.

Here are a couple of photos from the day. My favorite is Corinna and Sam sharing an embrace right after the recessional had concluded.

Jessica and Jason (aka J-Squared)

Last year my wife and traveled to Santa Ynez wine country to photograph engagement pictures for Jessica and Jason. We had such a wonderful day getting to know them that I knew their wedding was going to be a great event. Well Jessica and Jason were married last weekend at the beautiful TPC Valencia Country Club and the wedding lived up to my expectations. Jessica and her bridesmaids prepared for the big day in the stunning “Red Room” at the Hyatt Regency Valencia. Later in the evening the band “Full House” rocked the reception. The bride’s father was the keyboardist!

We all spent a great day soaking in the beautiful California weather taking hundreds of images. I was joined by Christine Ciszczon, an awesome photographer, and together we captured some great moments. Here are a couple to enjoy:
